Today, CCID Consulting Co., Ltd. released the 2007-2008 Annual Report on China's MP3 Player Market at the Consumer Electronics Market China 2008. It states, "RM and RMVB formats introduced by Real Company account for almost 80% of all online video formats, with huge market and user groups."

One of the key findings from’s report was that the quality of the best Flash and H.264 codecs still trailed RealVideo, often by a significant margin. To research the reports, report author Jan Ozer, produced a six-minute test file composed of 38 scenes representing typical business, sports, and entertainment videos, along with several animations and still image pans and zooms. The reports analyzed video quality in up to five configurations—modem, 3GPP, 100 Kbps, 300 Kbps and 500 Kbps—and compared frame quality, temporal and color quality and playback smoothness. Buyers can download all videos and still image files used in the analysis, along with a convenient interface for viewing the video files and still images.

TI announces RealVideo-enabled OMAP2430 Processor

This week, Texas Instruments announced the sampling of the new RealVideo-enabled OMAP2 processor. Designed for 3G mobile phones and boosting video performance by up to 4X and imaging performance by up to 1.5X, the OMAP 2430 includes the latest generation imaging, video and audio accelerator called the IVA2, a power-optimized version of the signal processing technology used in TI's recently announced DaVinciTM technology. The new processor also includes a high-speed USB 2.0 On-the-Go (OTG) interface for significantly faster file transfers on and off the handset, an increasingly important feature as the mobile phone becomes a primary media capture, storage and playback device.

New WAV file writer added for DTDriver

A new pluging for DTDriver has been checked into the datatype project, datatype/wav/wavwriter. This new plugin can be used, in conjunction with the DTDriver framework, to transcode to WAV format from any format that you have a plugin for (RA, mp3, Ogg, etc). This could be useful for converting a library of songs to WAV for burning onto CD and other activities.
