Another milestone for the industry standard mobile media platform - Helix .... as of last month, 80 million Helix DNA Clients have been shipped in mobile phones. This figure is represents a huge growth from the 25 million figure in Q2 2005.

Real today unveiled its Helix OnlineTV application for mobile and broadband providers and announced that Cingular has named Real as its end-to-end solution provider for the development and delivery of the carrier’s next generation video service. Helix OnlineTV is Real’s solution for both mobile and broadband service providers enabling them to offer personal interactive TV to consumers’ handsets or PCs.

For your business planning purposes.... According to market researcher Strategy Analytics, of the 185M total handsets that shipped during Q2/05, 9M or 5% were 3G (WCDMA) phones. Nokia topped the list of 3G vendor-rankings for the first time, with a 17% global share. Note: "Smartphones" are not synonymous with "3G" phones. (e.g. a Palm Treo 650 is a smartphone, but not a 3G phone)

Consumers can now use a single device to do everything from listening to music, watching mobile TV, snapping print-quality images, reading email, browsing their favorite websites and much more. The Nseries range is styled to meet the expectations of demanding customers with stainless steel finishes and black pearl and smooth silver color pallets. The first Nseries products are expected in Q2/05 followed by several more by the end of the year.

In case you missed it....On 18th February 2005, Real created the “Cayenne” branch of the Helix DNA Client. This branch of the Helix DNA Client codebase will form the basis for the next version of Real’s RealPlayer products, and will be the multimedia engine used on multiple platforms & mobile devices.
