Real Launches Helix OnlineTV for Carriers with Cingular

Real today unveiled its Helix OnlineTV application for mobile and broadband providers and announced that Cingular has named Real as its end-to-end solution provider for the development and delivery of the carrier’s next generation video service. Helix OnlineTV is Real’s solution for both mobile and broadband service providers enabling them to offer personal interactive TV to consumers’ handsets or PCs.

Microsoft Releases Windows Mobile 5.0

Today Microsoft announced the release of Windows Mobile 5.0. This new version of the Windows Mobile software hopes to include more platform flexibility to customize devices and solutions and provide productivity enhancements that include updated Microsoft Office software and persistent memory storage for more efficient data management.

Branch created for next major Helix DNA Client version (2.0)

In case you missed it....On 18th February 2005, Real created the “Cayenne” branch of the Helix DNA Client. This branch of the Helix DNA Client codebase will form the basis for the next version of Real’s RealPlayer products, and will be the multimedia engine used on multiple platforms & mobile devices.

HP To Launch Series of WinCE Handsets

HP has announced that it will roll out a line of WinCE devices during 2005 incorporating "several different wireless technologies". The first device will be the Mobile Messenger, a GSM/GPRS/EDGE handset with a thumb keyboard and GoodLink for push email support. They claim the Mobile Messenger will also include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a 1.3 Megapixel camera with flash, an SD card slot and an additional slot possibly for a miniSD card. If pictures and rumors are correct, this will also be the first Pocket PC device to feature a square screen.

WinCE 5.0 preparing for mobile devices

Intrinsyc today announced the availability of WinCE 5.0 on the new Intel 2700G Multimedia Accelerator Reference System, an Intrinsyc/Intel co-development initiative. This release creates a wireless reference platform for next-generation multimedia handheld devices, and provides an opportunity for Intrinsyc’s licensable mobile software products and engineering services.

Windows CE 4.2 port on x86

One of our partners has finished porting the Helix client on Windows CE 4.2 running on x86. The checkin process for merging the changes to the main Helix codebase will begin soon. We will try to provide targets for the stand-alone and Activex Control versions of the Helix DNA Client.
